REVIEW: Abacus
By Bryanna Reynolds
Bohemian Rhapsody Club were lucky enough to have a culinary experience with ABACUS Bar and Kitchen in Chapel Street, Melbourne, Australia.
The entire outing with Abacus had us feeling like we had entered the mecca of emerging trendy restaurants in the iconic restaurant district of South Yarra.
From the moment you entered through the glass electronic doors of Abacus you are greeted by the friendly staff who welcome you into the venue. Even from the street the cool vibes of black, white, grey and green guide you into an aesthetically pleasing environment.
If there is one thing that gives a place extra style is the way they represent themselves through the aesthetic of the venue. Abacus impresses even before you enter the venue.
Before travelling to the restaurant, I took a look at the impressive instagram page of Abacus and inspected the calibre of posts being shared by the restaurant and the people attending. I was thoroughly impressed.
We were treated to an extravagance of meals beginning with a morning coffee to start off our time with Abacus.
Dylan took magnificent care of us and treated us with the utmost respect in favour of the menu options he wanted us to try and share with everyone.
The multi talented chef, Chris Connolly tantalised our appetites with the juiciest and impressive items from the menu.
Beginning with the Cauliflower Heart which was a fusion of slow fried cauliflower, smoked eggplant, pickled fennel, saffron, cucumber and a fried egg. Chris even let us have a behind the scenes look while he prepped the dish in the kitchen.
Next was dessert and we were treated to one of the most insta friendly concoctions you will ever see! The sweet ricotta dumplings are what you need if you are looking for a dessert that invovles some dry ice magic and sweet juicy food to tantalise your taste buds.
The dumplings are made from ricotta and maple stuffed dumplings with confit rhubarb, salted peanut and passionfruit and pear tea. The tea is poured on whilst you are sitting at the table with the dry ice. It is purely magical to watch. Make sure to have your iphone storage free and your instagram ready to stream.
If you are a fan of food that's instagrammable yet delicious at the same time and made lovingly by talented chefs, then Abacus is the place to be.
It was an extraordinary experience and we recommend checking out Abacus Bar and Kitchen the next time you are in Chapel Street or Melbourne, Australia.
Thank you to the entire team at Abacus, especially Dylan and Chris for looking after us on the day.
