review: Kieran McNamara at Kieran Mcnamara Photography
The Adventures of Peter Pan and Tinker Bell is on at that Comedy Theatre from July 21-30 and it is a wonderful show providing great fun and entertainment from “3 to 103” as stated in the introduction prior to the first Melbourne performance last Friday night. The cast includes Todd McKenney, Tim Maddren, Jaime Hadwen, Katrina Retallick, Robyn Loau and Kev Orkian along with a great group of child performers. All the performers were excellent from the youngest to the oldest with slick dance moves, witty dialogue and wonderful singing. The show also included some flying cast members high above the stage to provide and an opportunity for the audience to explore the entire stage and space above it as Peter Pan flew back and forth. The audience was told to cheer, boo and hiss the various characters so it created a wonderful experience with plenty of opportunities for audience participation. We were seated behind two children of about 3 and 5 who loved every bit of it and provided plenty of noise, comments and dance moves as they followed along with the performers. There was plenty of humour aimed at children as well as plenty for the adults. It was nice to hear the smaller children laughing at plenty of jokes and the slapstick elements. Besides the comedy, there was a mix of some wonderful dance sequences providing an opportunity for the male and female performers to show their skills and talent with a mix of dance styles. I was really impressed with the skills of the youngest cast members as they showed brilliant dance skills along with the singing. All the performances were excellent throughout the show and it was exciting and entertaining. One of the young audience members became quite upset at intermission when she thought it was over but recovered in time to cheer at the heroes and boo Dr Hook through the remaining portion so that was a great sign of how much she was enjoying it. It was a wonderful show for all ages with a talented cast thoroughly entertaining the entire audience. I’d highly recommend going along with your children to enjoy a fun performance full of life and plenty of laughs and even if you don’t have children, it’s still worth getting along to watch in a beautiful theatre.
