HUNGARY
REKA OROSZ
Introduction Reka Orosz
I have been interested in sustainability, and saving our planet since my early childhood. Also to make tiny garments for my dolls out of unused textiles, later started to sew clothes for myself, friends, and schoolmates. I'm proud that I've made all my designs by myself from the scratch to the last stitch. In the last 15 years I showcased my creations in many countries, and fashion weeks like Budapest Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Serbia Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Fiesta, Islamabad Fashion Week, or Birmingham and Leicester Fashion Week. Also got invitation to Paris, Milano and New York Fashion Weeks, what still waiting for me to conquer.
In my previous collections I've always strived for cutting fabric with no waste, even using up other designesr leftover material. Using recycled and upcycled fabric is a very good way to allocate our resources.
I always felt enormous amount of love and respect towards Hungarian culture and big part of that is folk embroidery. The inexhaustible richness of Hungarian folk motifs inspires me every day.
I have based my latest collection on old traditions, and transform into something modern.
My aim is to make this unique one of a kind collection, which is accessible and wearable by the everyday women and to carry on the legacy of Hungarian folk art.
This is where tradition meets fashion and old meets the new world.
SUTO KRISZTINA
I am Krisztina Sütő. I am a member of the Fashion Revolution Hungary and the National Fashion League Hungary. I got my diploma of clothing’s tradesman in 2003. In 2015 I founded the OMG Designer Store. The name OMG (Oh Magyar Géniuszok) translates to Masterpieces of Hungarian Geniuses.
I feel that it is my mission to promote designers. I work in the spirit of sustainability, ethical clothing, and environmental awareness. I believe in the strength of the community and in personal relationships. I want the costumers to see designs and designed goods as not only products but as pieces from the designers’ souls.
I organized several exhibitions. In 2019 I had the opportunity to present Hungarian fashion designers’ and artists’ works in the European Parliament in Brussels.
In my shop in Sopron, I sell the products of contemporary designers and craftsmen. Currently a wide variety of products from 32 designers can be found in the store. In the future, I would like to invite designers to Sopron who can be role models for the future generations with the help of their lives’ work. It is of highest importance to me that designers focused on the function of products just as much as on their beauty.
A more viable society
In the fashion industry it is also incredibly important that the products could be used in the everyday life. The spirituality of the brands should also represent important views and ideas.
“For me, design is a vision destined to serve a more liveable society. I love working with designers who share this view. For example, it is important for the products to be made in the spirit of durability, so that they can serve their owners for a long time. The positive effects on the environment should not be forgotten either. This approach is also about the customers’ active participation in society since if they buy designer products, they also support national artists and their craftsmen as well.
