LOOK AND FEEL LIKE MILANESE
by Marisa Ferraro

website
Marisa Ferraro aka Miss Marisa is a writer, a blogger and a published wordsmith. She is a renowned author of the book called WOMEN OF STYLE. Having been in the corporate orbit for some time Marisa always had her creative side that she rarely expressed, until the ‘30 – something life crisis’ gave her the drive to put pen to paper. Her latest installment called The Stiletto Woman is a about empowerment when faced with adversity in love, dating and life in general. How do you reignite your inner spark, confidence and be the you that you want to be?

I met Marisa almost by accident being invited as a guest as well as to cover for Marisa's Women Of Style new book release launch at The George On Collins Bar and Venue.  My first impressions were mainly female-like: wow, what a style: the dress and shoes to die for. But we only judge by dress on the first meeting . The same evening we all saw Marisa in action: talented book author and presenter of her work, bubbly personality as we had the warmest reception by Marisa at her event. Second judgement as the famous proverb says is always by the intelligence and she ticked all the points.

Marisa wrote to me out of the blue and invited me for coffee. The third impression was a knock over for me: I saw Marisa's writing by hand: loads and loads of it as the single page double side callgraphed papers suddenly slid out of her notebook with the gorgeous cover of the woman's silhouette. I said silently: "wow...". You do not see this often in the modern age of computer typing technology... We, poets do it as it connects out hand to the brain immediately putting us in the alpha-state of mind... but I forgot when I saw the texts like this ... I could also feel Marisa had hard time stopping herself from this work as if her hand was not belonging to her... But what is in this writing? I would never know if I did not read... Marisa sent me her script the day after and that was my fourth surprise...

Her writing is thoughtful, very friendly and amazingly helpful to  those of us who search on how to look like an elegant queen and be an exquisite queen. There is definitely lots of food for thought in each sentence Marisa put together for our readers. Please enjoy your reading!

Look And Feel Like A Milanese

Now more than ever it feels like women are thrusted into the world of looking and fitting into the ideal of being ‘perfect’. Like it’s this goal that they strive for which is never enough or good enough so it becomes this unattainable goal. The digital realm has not helped, instead it has become this dangerous roulette game that plays havoc with your self- esteem, self- worth and beliefs. Fancy pictures of people looking glamorous and fitting a certain image, lovely clothes, diamond rings and holidaying in exotic locations paints the picture of a life of luxury and having it all where as in actual fact it couldn’t be more further from the truth. See people show you what they want you to believe. They show you what they want you to see. Usually that means a distorted version of the actual truth. People don’t post pain they post happiness and beautiful things.

But what if people just living their normal lives and just being who they are, taking pride in who they are without all the fuss and pomp and ceremony is all that is need? What if aesthetics are important but not this mammoth goal of perfection but just effortless beauty? What if you work with what you have got without the wish to be something other than you?

This is something the Milanese do without worry and effort. See, looking good and feeling good shouldn’t be such an exhausting feat. They have an inner confidence and knack of carrying an outfit. Their inner reflects their outer. Maybe it is something that has been programmed since young or maybe it is part of being who they are and want to be. The Milanese have a natural flare for the beautiful that doesn’t require too much overdoing.
A virtue that many should aspire to have.  It is about quality not quantity. Milanese relish in it.  Less is more and class and elegance doesn’t have to be overdone. Chic is effortless.  They don’t need to get their P & Q’s from Instagram. They are teaching we the world how to work it. Women don’t overdo their make up. When they dress, it is a little of everything. That is what makes the outfit complete. It isn’t complex but easy. They don’t try hard. It is who they are. Their confidence speaks and the way they dress is the bi product of their confidence. They two go hand in hand. That is why they know their style and are known for that. The most fashionable and consciously confident people in Europe. It is not about being envious of a picture of someone beautiful. They enhance their own beauty and style.

You can incorporate a little Milan to your everyday life. So much so that looking at luxurious pictures of others on social media wont make you feel inadequate and less than. You wont want to feel that who you are and what you have is not enough.  Start by shopping for quality. It doesn’t matter if its off the rack. It is about quality that will last years. If it is made well it will give you worth for your wear. Made unwell, as we know, it doesn’t last very long at all. Some things that are made cheap actually look it too. Quality always triumphs of quantity. The Milanese pride themselves on this and it shows. The price can justify the means. Take pride in yourself and who you are. Value yourself. A little TLC goes a long way. It can be small little things that you do for yourself that make you feel good. It is a personal thing so look into what you love and the things that make you happy. Feeling good about yourself is so important because it’s not just about what you wear but how you carry yourself when you are out there in the world. So do the things that you love and bring you joy. Take a chance on yourself and your grooming. Love your unique self. It’s about how you see yourself not so much how others see you. Make aesthetics work for you. This is actually a priority in the Milanese way of life. And it shows.  Your energy and presence says a lot and your clothes and they way you put yourself together is a reflection of that. The Milanese don’t follow the world trends. They are the trend. Follow your style and be confident in that. Don’t be afraid to try. Give certain looks and colours a try. Be audacious and see what your comfortable in. Pick a bold colour and mix it with a block colour like black, nude or white. If you buy something expensive make sure it’s a classic colour not a one off. If your spending big for the first time you want it to be as timeless as possible.   That way you start to have some clarity in what works for you and not. Repetition is the mother of skill so the more you try and be bold about it eventually will become second nature to you. That is why the Milanese walk with flare. They instinctively know. They are novices in style and effortless chic.

Once you can incorporate just a few of these tweaks to your life and make it a habit to do so then you are on your way. It will become part of your life and it can actually be quite fun having that je ne sais quoi.   It is about revamping your attitude as well as shopping savvy. It doesn’t have to be drastic or loud. Subtle and smart. Shop for quality as well as the where and when. We all love a bargain. Shop at places that have quality and shop at the times when you know there are sales or new items with promotions. Elegance can be plain with just a little bling of an accessory. Understated class is the new black. Its brilliant. Invest in a few pieces that will last longer. Mixing and matching key pieces is also a great way your clothes go far. The Milanese don’t have to shop every week. They know when and where. So find your where and when.

Most of all enjoy the process of life looking chic. A coffee whilst people watching goes a long way. Do it Milanese style. In style. Make this a hobby. Life is to be enjoyed too. So enjoy it.
