MERCY NGOZI UDOH
Mercy  Ngozi  Udoh  is  an  Ex-Model,  Fashion  Designer,  and  the  Creative  Director  of Zateemee. Born  in  Agbor  Delta  State  in  the  late  1980s,  Mercy  is  the  1st  of  4  Children.  A  natural creative,  Mercy  nursed  a  love  for  fashion,  and  a  particular  fascination  with  special event  dresses  even  from  her  childhood.  While  she  was  just  a  pupil  at  Bereton Nursery  and  Primary  School  in  Port  Harcourt,  Rivers  State,  Mercy  had  begun sketching  and  creating  fashion  illustrations  in  her  play  time.    By  the  time  she  was  9 Years  old,  she  was  beading  dresses,  styling  family  and  friends  and  tying  her  Mother’s gele.   After  her  primary  education,  Mercy  went  on  to  Royal  Girls  Academy  for  her Secondary  education,  and  then  OMPADEC  Science  Centre  (now  Niger  Delta  Science School)  where  she  graduated  from. At  the  age  of  16,  Mercy  was  scouted  by  the  organizers  of  the  Niger  Delta  Beauty Pageant  as  a  potential  contestant.  While  she  declined  to  participate  in  the  pageant, this  encounter  marked  the  beginning  of  a  remarkable  modelling  career  that  would run  for  half  a  decade,  and  see  her  Model  pieces for Fashion  Powerhouses;  Zizi  Cardow and  Frank  Oshodi  among  others. Working  directly  with  Designers  like  Zizi,  and  Frank  gave  her  behind-the-scene insight  into  the  fashion  world;  the  creative  process,  and  the  business  of  it.  This proximity,  served  to  fan  the  flames  of  her  passion. In  2004  Mercy  went  on  to  enrol  at  the  University  of  Portharcourt  where  she  studied Pure  Chemistry,  while  still  pursuing  her  illustrious  modelling  career. In  2010,  she  took  her  first  real  swing  at  Fashion  Entrepreneurship  with  the  launch  of Gorgeous  Beginnings  Kids  boutique,  and  then  In  2012,  when  her  younger  sister signed  up  to  the  Miss  Rivers  State  Pageant,  she  designed  the  dress  her  sister  wore and  emerged  as  the  winner  in.  This  experience  was  the  spark  that  lit  the  fire  of  what would  eventually  become  Zateeme  in  2015. Known  by  her  colleagues  and  clients  for  her  tremendous  creativity,  and  great attention  to  detail,  she  has  gone  on  to  make  Zateemee  a  fast  rising  fashion label,  which  under  her  leadership,  has  expanded  to  include;  a  diffusion  line,  and contemporary  ready  to  wear  line  in  addition  to  its  original  bespoke  special  occasion and  bridal  line.  In  2018,  Zateemee  took  home  the  award  in  the  best  designer   Category  of  the  golden  pageant  awards  and  in  2020;  the  label  also  won  the  fashion category  of  Connect  Nigeria’s  Top  100  emerging  SMEs. Mercy’s  vision  is  to  continue  to  create  stunning  pieces  that  make  women  feel confident  and  powerful.  She  is  also  a  firm  Believer  in  giving  back  which  is  why  she runs  a free  training  scheme  for  2  deserving  fashion  students  every  year. Asked  about  her  long  term  vision  for  brand?  She  responds  in  this  manner  “My  Vision is  to  see  Zateemee  grow  to  the  point  where  it  is  stocked  in  major  fashion  boutiques and  retail  outlets  in  the  World’s  most  notable  Fashion  Capitals”.
.
THE BRAND Zateemee is  a  contemporary  fashion  house  launched  in  2015  by  Creative Director  Mercy  Udoh. The  brand  launched  as  a  bespoke  designer  specializing  first  in  evening  and  occasion wear  before  expanding  shortly  after,  and  rather  successfully  into  bridal  wear; creating  the  most  exquisite  pieces  for  brides  and  bridesmaids  alike. Tailored  to  the  elegant,  yet  bold  and  style  savvy  woman,  the  brand  prides  itself  on creating  pieces  soaked  in  passion  for  craft,  and  love  with  an  excellent  attention  to detail. Zateemee  with  its  elegant  and  ultra-feminine  aesthetic  has  adorned  the  body  of  a number  of  acclaimed  Thespians  and  Celebrities  alike  some  of  whom  are;  Juliet Ibrahim,  Ini  Dima-Okojie,  Ceecee,  Koko,  and  Onobello. Expanding  its  footprint  in  the  Nigerian  Fashion  Industry  and  strengthening  its  label; Zateemee  launched  a  denim  diffusion  line  in  January  of  2017  called  “Teaze  by Zateemee”. Teaze  by  Zateemee  brought  with  it  a  parade  of  exciting  and  African  themed  denim pieces  that  was  an  ode  to  Zateemee’s  more  adventurous  clients.    This  denim  line  and its  aesthetic  also  appealed  to  younger  women  looking  for  something  fresh,  edgy,  and feminine,  but  suitable  to  the  demands  of  everyday  life. Pulling  a  design  triple  threat,  in  2020,  Zateemee  launched  a  ready-to-wear  shirt range;  Lilila  in  response  to  new  consumer  habits,  and  needs  brought  on  by  the  Post COVID-19  era.  A  contemporary  and  practical  offering,  the  Lilila  range  is  steeped  in the  brand’s  signature  elegance. 5  Years  into  its  existence,  Zateemee  has  had  its  fair  share  of  acclaim  and  accolades being  nominated  in  2018  in  the  best  designer  category  of  the  golden  pageant  awards and  taking  home  the award. Zateemee  has  also  showcased  at  The  International  Style  festival and a string of Fashion shows.
.
THE COLLECTION Zateemee  presents  Blanc  its  most  recent  collection  and  a  conscious  and  necessary ode to  the reality  of  the  Post-Covid-19  era,  and  its  new  demands. The  name  of  the  collection  carries  within  it powerful  symbolism  of  a  plain  or  blank canvas  with  which  we can  paint  fashion’s  soon  to  be  history,  and  the  new  normal. The  collection  honours  the  unfolding  reality  of  its  patronesses  who  have  gone  from  a social  calendar  boasting  a  flurry  of  large,  over-the-top  events  to  lighter,  more intimate  occasions  with  its  infusion  of;  Jumpsuits  and  wedding  dresses  more  suited to  minimal  cocktails  parties  and  civic  weddings,  than  fairytale  fantasies. Blanc  stays  true  to  the  brand’s  elegant  and  ultra-feminine  ethos  showcasing  a  heavy dose  of  white  and  peach  pieces;  signalling  modesty,  innocence,  and  the  hopeful blooming  of  a  new world with  the perfect  balance of  goddess  energy. Blanc  serves  emerging  consumer  needs  that  necessitate;  fluidity,  greater  simplicity, and  an  unusual  dose of  practicality  in  the  navigation  of  fashion  and  styling.
