review Nadia Pleshkova
Another year sees another wonderful event for this brilliant and vibrant city.
Australia’s recognised cultural capital hosted the largest dedicated coffee show held in the Southern Hemisphere, The Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE).
The event leaves nothing to chance for us coffee lovers with a brilliantly organised true blue celebration of the Australian coffee industry.
MICE leads you through the magical world of coffee and caters for all tastes from the trendsetting barista to the dedicated consumer of a great cup of coffee.
Highlighting the endless creativity that this beverage brings to coffee lovers’, this expo constantly pushes the boundaries of the coffee industry to evolve.
Upon entering this celebration of all things coffee, you are totally engrossed in the passion and dedication to the art of producing, serving and consuming coffee to the highest quality and standards. When tasting your favourite brew from now on, you will have a deeper understanding of how much science, experimentation and chemistry plays in evolution of coffee. We simply talk three ingredients: coffee beans, water and milk. Coffee preparation is built on the expert’s choice of the right green beans, constantly developing new roasting profiles, hot and cold brewing methods combined with tinkering the technologies at hand.
Suppliers of coffee beans from Burundi, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Honduras and other countries engage you with their unique and colourful brands, exquisite offerings, tasting profiles and brilliant stories of how the beans are crafted and harvested.
You will find suppliers trading in essential equipment required to deliver that golden cuppa including brewing gears, barista tools, water filtration and coffee machines, cleaning products and are all here to explain and navigate you through the world of coffee making.
Now...If you are not a total coffee “nut” and enthralled with all the technological gadgets that froths and foams milk, grinds beans or expensive customised brewing machines, MICE entertains you with cupping sessions, Barista Big Bash competition, Brewers Cup services and of course the fascinating Pure Latte Art Championships.
Did I also mention that MICE is devoted to represent environmentally conscious technologies and a numerous sustainable products. It’s fun to learn, for instance, that some Coffee cups and food containers are made from sugar cane leftovers (Free Tree), plant based (Vegware) or bamboo pulp (Pureco) - Bravo.
It’s been such a pleasure to discover how innovative, passionate and committed our coffee industry is through my visit to MICE. The industry represents itself in such a rich, constantly expanding and progressive way that satisfies the huge demand for from our ever more educated and sophisticated creative tastebuds of our clever consumers.
Please come and enjoy the special craft of making coffee with MICE.
