ChillOut Festival transforms the Hepburn region into the LGBTI capital of Australia. Come celebrate our 21st birthday, carnival weekend 8th- 12th March 2018.
ChillOut, Australia’s number one Queer Country Pride festival, is held in the gay capital of regional Victoria – Daylesford - in the Hepburn Shire.
From humble beginnings in 1997, ChillOut Festival has grown to become Australia's largest Queer Country Pride festival.Explore the history, the people and the stories that have made this
festival what it is today.
PURPOSE
ChillOut Daylesford Inc promotes and encourages tolerance, understanding and inclusion of the LGBTI community through arts, cultural activities and events; promoting and supporting LBGTI expression in Regional Victoria.
From humble beginnings, ChillOut has grown to become the biggest and longest-running Country Queer Pride event in regional Australia, and the largest festival in Hepburn Shire. While events in the capital cities might be a lot bigger, ChillOut retains a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to let your hair down, and has found a special place in the hearts of gay men and lesbians across Australia – and the world.
ChillOut began as an annual festival of the Springs Connection, a local gay and lesbian business group in Daylesford. The first festival was staged in 1997 and each year the festival has been hosted over the Victorian Labour Day long weekend in March.
ChillOut is a not-for-profit community-based organisation dedicated to celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer pride within the unique setting of regional Victoria. We’re about building community, celebrating diversity, and sharing our love for this beautiful part of Australia, while helping raise money every year for a dedicated worthy cause.
Part 1: The Beginnings
Daylesford in the mid-1990s was home to an increasing number of gay men and lesbian women. Attracted by the beautiful bushland environment, and a community that was often quite welcoming, these men and women worked hard to make Daylesford a vibrant and viable place to live.
Part 2: 1998 - 2007
After the success of the first ChillOut day at The Olde Winery, Musk Vale in 1997, members of Springs Connections and others in the LGBTI community were keen to do it again.
Part 3: 2008 - today
The shock of cancelling the festival in 2007 made both organisers and participants realise the vulnerability of an event that was operating purely on the hard work and passion of a small number of volunteers.
ChillOut acknowledges that Indigenous Australians are the first peoples of these lands. They pay their respects to all Indigenous Australians, past and present, and we recognise their continuing spiritual and cultural connection to the land.
ChillOut Festival occurs on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung.
