The Cat Lovers Show
Sat 8th and Sun 9th September 2018
Royal Exhibition0e Building Carlton
This weekend the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton hosted the first inaugural Cat Lovers Show. Brought to you by Event Management International who also bring the Dog Lovers Show to Melbourne each year , I’m suspecting that the organisers did not expect the cat lovers show to be as popular as the dog version, given that the tickets to the event on both days sold out online prior to the event even starting, which meant for lengthy queues at the venue for cat lovers who were
hoping on some last minute tickets.
With over 100 Exhibitors and two stages showing specialist cat breeds and providing valuable information in regard to caring for your much loved four legged furry friends, there was something for every cat lover to enjoy !
The Breed Showcase Arena was a small area sectioned off where you could que and meet 10 different cat breeds and their devoted breeder/owners. I finally had my question answered as to the difference between a Burman and a Ragdoll breed by Burman Breeder Paul, who has 15 burmans at home, and was very happy to introduce us to two of them during the show.
One of the main objectives of the show for the organisers was to educate and raise awareness around Cat Rescue and responsible and committed cat ownership. Every year there are an astounding amount of cats who need to need to be ideally re homed due to non committed owners changing their minds or becoming disinterested once their kitten becomes a cat or when another new pet is welcomed into the family. With Rescue Groups such as Ingrids Haven, Pets Haven Foundation, Cat Protection Society of Australia and Penisula Cat Rescue, there were many options for people to consider adopting a rescue cat and providing a new and wonderful life for one of our beautiful furry friends.
I think the organisers of this even will now know that Melbourne has just as many cat lovers as dog lovers and that any future event will be jam packed and well received ! Who knows it may even out grow the venue !! If you plan on attending next years event be sure to book early !

poem to cover the exhibition by Susan Reynolds
Wrote this while I waited [NM: in line with a large Russian family in front].......
Cat extravaganza accompanying paraphernalia the human admirers have amassed! The cat lovers show is a definite blast. Everything for kitties and their slaves, up onstage presenters hoping their beauty behaves. We’re educated how we should look after these pets. this is for those cat people it’s as die hard as it gets. Queues for a hello to special breeds worth a wait, for those deciding what cat will be their perfect mate. Support your local rescue centres they have a stand buy a raffle ticket or give a donation give these poor babies need a hand. Fun for young and all something will appeal from a retail stall. From portrait paintings to buy or have your own nails painted it’s that diverse. Inside this beautiful Exhibition Building this is cat universe
