review: Roslynn Garwood-Webb
Following her hugely successful 2017 Panto Season , Bonnie Lythgoe productions has returned in 2018 to bring yet another Amazing Production to Melbourne, perfectly timed for Family School Holiday Fun - Sleeping Beauty - A Knight Avengers Tale.
Set in a royal castle somewhere in Melbourne between St Kilda, Toorak and the Dandenong's, this panto is loosely based on the well known Disney fairytale. Princess Aurora is preparing for her 21st birthday celebration. Whilst the royal staffers are busy preparing for the event, Princess Aurora is reunited with her childhood friend the charming Prince Valiant, whom she hasn't seen since she was a little girl. It is love at first sight for them both, much to the anguish of Aurora’s right hand man Silly Billy, who is madly in love with the Princess but his admiration and love is unrequited as Princess Aurora has only eyes for the Regal Prince Valiant. All however is not fair in love so it seems. A curse placed on the princess at birth by the scorned wicked bad fairy Carabosse, puts her to sleep for 100 years. Through the portrayal of several love stories, you are left wondering who will be the one to wake the Princess with true loves first kiss.
Sleeping beauty — a Knight Avengers Tale is an outrageously funny, side splitting Comedic theatre production which will entertain both adults and children alike. With it's stunning sets, amazing nostalgic musical numbers and even a sneakily placed teaser for next years panto, for 2 and a half hours (inclusive of intermission), you will be enchanted by performances from a spectacular cast including Rhonda Birchmore (Wicked Fairy Carabosse), Melissa Kautz ( Good Fairy), Kev Orkian As the outrageously funny Silly Billy), the ever so talented english actor, Fraser Hines ( King Louis), Katrina Retallick (Nanny Tickle), Embla Bishop (Sleeping Beauty) and Daniel Milne ( Prince Valiant).
Hand on my heart this was the most I have laughed in a longtime and to hear the unstoppable laughter from my 9 year old daughter beside me was the sweetest sound to my ears and something I will never forget. We laughed so much that our cheeks hurt, We just didn't want it to end.
Sleeping Beauty a Knight Avengers Tale is a must see for everyone these School
Holidays. 10/10
