It is all about bulbs and flowers for one blossoming month from mid September to mid October (actually till October 15 exactly this year). The tulip Festival on Monbulk Road Silvan gets opened for the Australian people and for so many tourists. We arrived so early on Monday morning, it was still foggy and dewy on the car park grounds. We had a long one hour walk around the farm till the gates got opened. The lands under the tulips are so vast we were surprised how it was managed and maintained in such a gorgeous condition, so neat and so manicured. We did the right thing arriving so early as the grounds became packed with the visitors by 1100am when we were leaving the place. Our morning and part of the afternoon was beautiful and multi colored. The flowers were still in full bloom but there were still many unopened buds because of the cod and late spring this year in Melbourne.
As I mentioned the flowers and the grounds are in excellent condition and the atmosphere of the whole event is very welcoming. There are also many happy and smiling people walking and taking photos between the tulip patches. I am not mentioning great food selection and very beautiful music on the background to accompany our walk. I was thinking that it is such a gorgeous way to spend time here among flowers that we call "the smiles of the Earth" . More to that : Dandenong Ranges has lots of hidden gems: little cute cafes with amazing food and drinks which we of course used to our advantage on the way back and had one fantastic lunch at the Billy Goat Hill Brasserie. I also believe your children will love the place so much: there are sculptures and this year in particular they are magnificent! There is a little pet farm for kids (I personally do not like torturing the little ones like this as the animals get stressed by the crowds) but I understand how much fun it is for our kids to see live farm animals.
The tulips look amazing - there are so many highly professional photographers working on site and we met and talked with few. I love Victorian spring: it is lush and crisp, it is full of color surprises and it is so rejuvenating and so sunny! We are also so lucky to have the Tesselar Tulip Festival so close to us in Victoria and I am very grateful to all people who work so hard to maintain the farm in such a fabulous condition. the farm has 25 acres of land and some of us having hard time taking care of less than one acre. One word I have to describe such event that we all wait for the whole year to come: MAGICAL! There are some stats that I want to sharer with our readers too that seem so impressive to me (I got them from the two men walking through the patches with some funny instruments - they were all covered in pollen and I just guessed they were pretending to bee some huge bees): it is the 64th Tesselaar Tulip Festival with more than one million spectacular flowers on display showcasing more than 150 different varieties. Now THIS is impressive - there are always more flowers bu the number of visitors is greater!
There is a cute little train going around the farm carrying kids who wave to the people standing between the blossoms with umbrellas. There are not only tulips on display. there are daffodils of a huge number of varieties there too. There are shops where you can buy souvenirs and bulbs, there are shops where you can window shop and buy flowers for your home, there is everything you need for one sensational day out. Again: I recommend you to arrive earlier - the photos are better when there are not that many people around and the light is much better in the mornings.
Enjoy you time on Earth~
