Interview with Bogdan Ota, composer and pianist

Bogdan Ota – Revelations Tour
“Inspiration is not something you can ask for. It is an act, just like dreaming is an act. It is a gift to us.” This is how Bogdan Ota describes his process for creating the spectacular, orchestral pieces and piano concertos he is renowned for.
Bogdan has enjoyed a meteoric rise as an artist across Europe and indeed the world after first appearing on ‘Norway’s Got Talent’. I called to interview him in while he was on tour in Colorado ahead of his upcoming Australian performance. When I got through he was mid interval at the ballet and we arranged to speak later – it was clear his interest in all things classical was vast and his appreciation was genuine.
After many years of ballet myself, one of the things that sticks with me the most is the music and the way that this can transport you to an incomparable place of serenity. Bogdan has taken this music and the way it can reach an audience to a very new dimension.
He explained the complex multi-media that will accompany his concert and it sounds truly spectacular. He promises to enthral his audience and lead them on a journey that will include a story to accompany each of his new musical accomplishments, giving the background of what he was experiencing in life at the time to create it.
And music has certainly provided him an interesting adventure so far. He has been touring around the world, including previous seasons in Australia, his music has been used in two European movies and he is currently in negotiations with a production team in L.A about an upcoming film.
While his many international travels are impressive, Bogdan spoke most fondly of his greatest journey to come – he is soon to become a father, and he shared that one of the new pieces from his latest album ‘Revelations’ will feature a track inspired by this time of his life.
With a selection of all of his best works to date, Bogdan is performing ‘Revelations’ in MELBOURNE on November 22, 7 p.m., James Tatoulis Auditorium, Methodist Ladies’ College.
