The Landscape Project
Circus as a reaction to space, time and intensity
23rd November - 3rd December 2016
The night began by walking into the foyer of The National Institute of Circus Arts Australia where the intensifying smell of freshly popped popcorn filled the air. The vibe as soon as you drifted through all the people waiting to enter the performance space was electric, there was so much energy.
There was a bar with an array of drinks offering both alcoholic and carbonated drinks with plenty of lollies, chips and popcorn to snack on.
The bell was ringing and it was time to take our drinks into the main performance space. We took a seat up the back towards the middle which was the perfect viewpoint of the performance space.
As soon as the music started the space was brought to life. For the third year students this was the beginning of their final performance before they graduate from NICA.
The landscape project is about interpreting everyday landscapes and spaces through the art of circus performance.
The show featured original acts incorporating aerial rope, bottle walking, hula hooping, group acrobatics, slackline, tumbling, trampoline and so much more. All the acts were tied together through quirky music representative of the supposed space they were performing in.
One of the main elements of circus performance is comedy and this was ever present throughout. Special shoutout to the juggling threesome who lightened up the audience and infected everyone with their joyous presence.
The talent on display was just awe-inspiring. It made you want to get involved and just simply be amazed by the fearlessness displayed.
The students performing in 'The Landscape Project' have spent 30 Hours a week over the past 3 years honing their circus performance skills and it was wonderful to witness the next generation of circus performers.
The show is suitable for all ages so make sure you take your whole family along and prepare to be amazed. You will be on the edge of your seat one moment and laughing out loud the next.
Thank you to The National Institute of Circus Arts Australia and Miranda Brown Publicity for the opportunity to see the show and create a video.
Bohemian Rhapsody were lucky enough to have a sneak peak earlier in the week where we had a look behind the scenes and had a chat with award winning director Debra Batton make sure you check out the video.
